Commence the Commencing!
Commence the Commencing! 147 classes have graduated from MIT in its history; today, the Class of 2014 will join them as alumni of the Institute. The 148th Commencement will be webcast starting at 8 AM ET, with color commentary by our very own Matt McGann. You can follow the commencement on Twitter, on Storify, or via #MIT2014 on your social media system of choice. I must admit Im a bit sentimental about this particular commencement. The Class of 2014, including Anna, Emad, Kate, Natanya, and Tom, were the first undergraduates whom I helped admit, and Ive seen them grow from small, squishy prefrosh to unbelievably intelligent and compassionate adults. Most of my functional cohort (and some of my closest friends) from grad school are graduating today as well before heading to different corners of the planet to help make it a better place. Its very, very hard to see the Class of 2014 leave, but Im so glad that they are. Congratulations, kids. I intend to spend most of the day watching the commencement with the families of my friends but will try to occasionally update this post with pictures and videos as the day goes along. Update: Im tired and sunburnt but posted a bunch of photos to Facebook so go look at them there! My friend Eduardo and my bear Cornelius this morning

Rhetorical Analysis Of Ronald Reagan s Boys Of Pointe...
Ronald Reaganââ¬â¢s Fortieth Anniversary of D-Day Speech became known as the ââ¬Å"Boys of Pointe Du Hoc Speechâ⬠written by Peggy Noonan. The speech was delivered on June 6, 1984 in Normandy, France: the site where the Allied forces invaded the cliffs just forty years before Reagan had delivered this memorable speech (Stepman). The forum itself was an important aspect of the speech. The delivery of the speech there, on the windy shore cliffs of northern France, enhanced the visualization as well as the nostalgia for the Veteran audience as a backdrop for some of the many examples Reagan had used in his speech. The purpose of this speech was to not only commemorate the American Ranger Veterans for their valiant efforts in taking this Nazi stronghold, but to also address the world, and the Soviets, that conquest and tyranny will not stand in the way of peace and liberty. Through the use of effective rhetorical devices, Ronald Reagan encompassed his theme that there is somethi ng worth fighting for when someone uses ââ¬Å"force for conquestâ⬠rather than ââ¬Å"the use of force for liberationâ⬠(12). With his examples of the brave soldiers forty years before, he discussed how their efforts back then affected the world at the time. One of the most important rhetorical devices that Reagan used was exemplum. Throughout the speech, Reagan gave many examples of what the soldiers had done. He described their courage, difficulties, struggles, loyalty, bravery, risk, passion, and sacrifice, with the scene

Since the act of projecting is an unconscious mechanism, it is not communicated to others nor is it even recognized as a projection by the person himselfâ⬠¦(Tritt 114).â⬠Projection would allow a much more personal relationship with the story and create an important connection between literature and reader. Imagery is used throughout the whole story of ââ¬Å" Young Goodman Brown,â⬠but Richard Predmore believes that Brownââ¬â¢s experience should include to be seen as sense of unconsciousness. S. Equities As the United States economy continues to grow in areas but struggle in others, the decision to place the largest allocation of funds into this category is made without hesitation. 013 is the 1st year after a presidential election and the second term for our current president. Typically in situations like this there is less hype about a new leader in office and more emphasize placed on making strategic decisions and outcomes. Even though were are currently looking at the possibility of thousands of government based worked to be subjected to mandatory pay reductions through a sequester plan, the United States business machines is moving at a strong pace. Since 2008 business and industry leaders have worked to understand the changing dynamics of both the US and International economic challenges and have positioned their organizations to adapt more quickly to those conditions (Investors, 2013). As consumer spending and consumer confidence continue to increase, U. S. Equities should continue on steady growth plan which is indicated in the strong SP Indices (currently at 1518. 20), NASDAQ (currently at 3169. 74), and the DOW (currently at 14089. 66). These indicators provide direct indication that investor and business confidence levels are extremely high and favorable for positive returns. U. S. 30 Year Treasury Bonds Although this investment class can be considered the most conservative of the three, the low yield of government bonds in the past 10 years does not lend a comparative metric against many other investment opportunities (Jacobs, 2012). The fixed rate of these instruments allows for a guaranteed return, but should only be utilized at a point in an investing cycle when risk is higher than potential income growth. The 25% allocation that is invested in this class is positioned to provide a long term guaranteed investment, with the possible that these lower rates will not rise significantly in the next few years. Cash The lowest of investment allocation classes is cash. The cost to leave any instrument in this category is expensive and provides very little ROI. The funds kept in this allocation are specific for future investment opportunities where transition of funds from other classes could have a significant impact or cost to the overall 12 month plan (Mangla, 2012). Summary Looking back over the past ten years and most especially the past three years for investment returns and economic possibilities, there seems to be more growth in the past 24 months than what we have seen in over a decade. The rapidly changing international economic climate and the current government struggles with tax based polices and the continued climbing US deficit will make 2103 a year where investors must maintain a long term focus while being selective in short term growth opportunities.
